With an NHS career in general and mental health nursing spanning from 1980 to the early 2000s Lou Sommereux opened her multi award winning Cambridge Clinic in 2002 and began working in Aesthetics. After working alone for 12 years she realised that in creating a team her clinic could grow and develop a business model in offering a wider menu of injectable and energy based treatments for the face and body. During this time she joined a very small team of like-minded nurses to form the BACN following the dismantling of the RCN forum of which she was a member and a peer reviewer. Whilst serving on the BACN Management Committee for 7 years Lou was instrumental in laying and building the foundations of the organisation and enabling and promoting it’s incredible reputation  to become the association it is today. Lou has filled various positions for the BACN and acted as secretary, vice chair and regional leader. Lou implemented the original regional groups ethos and formulation and has remained the BACN lead for East Anglia since its conception.

She has served on many aesthetic boards, peer reviewed and written several papers for publication and continues to be a judge for several of the Aesthetic Awards. She is a co-author of the original BACN accredited RCN competencies and is currently a member of the BACN education and training committee. She co-led the NMC Revalidation study for 3 years and continues to provide support and mentorship to many nurses.

Recognised as a trainer and presenter for Galderma she has recently stepped down from their global faculty. Lou was awarded her PgCert and Diploma in Aesthetic Practice in the first cohort  from Northumbria University and is currently working towards her MSc degree in Obesity and weight loss. Married with 4 children she enjoys the simple pleasures of life.
