SHARRON BROWN is a Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Since 2001 Sharron has worked with patients with HIV associated facial lipoatrophy treating with New-Fill™ (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) injections initially in a research setting, since 2003 within a nurse-led clinic. Sharron has developed a particular interest in the management of facial lipoatrophy she believes in taking a holistic approach in order to achieve a result that the patient can feel comfortable with both visually and psychologically.

Sharron is involved in lecturing, teaching and training and has contributed to scientific publications.Sharron also works as a specialist nurse in aesthetic medicine. Sharron believes the consultation prior to treatment is of utmost importance, if realistic objectives are to be achieved this is where nurses working in this field can and do excel, which it is why it is so important that nurses not only have their own professional body but that they also have a voice.

The past year has been a busy one for Sharron, as joint lead for BACN's participation in the NMC revalidation pilot of which the input from our members was seen in a very positive light by the NMC. She has taken part in some lively discussion at Nuffield Council on Bioethics as a working party member exploring issues and questions regarding potential risks, lack of regulation and professional standards with surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
